So because I don't redline the car and keep it above 3k rpm when running to the shops I'm driving a sports car wrong? Very interesting. For what it's worth I do, in fact, drive my car plenty hard and it certainly hits the redline quite often. That said, I also enjoy to hypermile when not hooning (as it's fun and I like getting close to 400 miles out of every tank). I also said in my post that I do that when there is NO engine load, as in going on a slight decline or maintaining speed.
But hey, we each have our own driving style and mine seems to work quite well so needn't we worry about which gear we cruise in.
