I've also been told to pull the plugs so there is no compression in the cylinders, this way there is almost no stress on the engine while you are getting the pump primed back up. I had a '67 Mini and after the engine build that is what we did, no fuel, no plugs, crank till you get pressure on the gauge, put everything back the way it belongs.
