I can't find the link now, but awhile back i had seen a tin can kinda thing with a magnet on the back and vent's on the lid. Basically you could put moth balls or some other vapor like substance inside and it would smell up the engine bay and would keep pest's away. maybe you could make one?
I'm thinking get a metal tin like this:

and cut some vents out in the lid and then attach a magnet to either the back or stick it inside to stick to a part of the engine compartment, probably around the edge somewhere.
