You can tell this because the valves begin to float and not close completely so the engine gets kind of quiet for a fraction of a second, that's how you know when to shift for maximum performance!

But really, just when it seems right, probably 3,000-4,000 most of the time, although with the engine deadspot I tend to go more 4,000 plus. ANd of course at redline because it is more fun.
