My windshield wiper fluid stopped working -- it'd just spray fluid below the engine bay. I assumed the hose had come loose, but it turned out some rodent had chewed it up.

Has anyone else had issues with this? How do you prevent this from happening? I'm considering mothballs but I don't want to stink up my car. I suppose I'm lucky as it was just the wiper fluid hose and not some electrical wires or something like that.
