As someone said recently, Toyota is not going cater to the power mongers only to the ricers.(I added the ricer part)
Now about the looks, the BRZ just overall looks and flows better. The GT86 is a hot mess rolled into one. When you look at both in person, you'll see the busy-ness of the GT86, but for the time being put both sets of pics together. BRZs side profile flows into the lower front fascia, wingless, the front fascia lower lip and side grill profile(lower lip area) are of european design.
I think I'm one of the very few here who likes the flat black front bar/grill section, I think it's one of the best designed fascia that's used currently in the industry(definately less obtrusive than Mazda or Hyundai). It'll allow future addition of a FMIC.
Overall it's smoother and mature looking. Seperates it from the tuner look to more of a grand tourer.

I think you're spot on with this. I've been playing with cars for years now, and I'm by and large done with driving things that will get negative attention. So here's how I see it:
GT86: Aggressive looks means that the car is going to get raced at stoplights by every car on the planet, and will lose 95% of the time, because that isn't the way in which this car is fast. It will get a lot of positive comments as well though, because the car just looks fast.
BRZ: Understated, if you want to be able to drive to work in peace, without everyone and their mother trying to race you, this is it. It's not as flashy, the front end doesn't scream"LOOK AT ME", and the car won't get nearly so much attention, but will perform exactly the same.
So while the GT86/FRS owners are getting pulled over, or explaining how it's a drivers car, and straight line performance isn't everything, I'll be driving past comfortably in my less sexy BRZ, because frankly, I feel too old to be putting up with that kind of stuff anymore.
