Depends on how tight the course is but I feel like it usually isn't worth it to try downshifting. TBH I don't think power supply is something you need to worry about for the time being. Instead try to focus on your line, as that is where you will see the biggest improvements. Shifting is really a more "advanced" technique in autox.
