HPDE events are to learn the racing line and push the cars to the limit. You can spin or catch the spin while going too fast. There is an instructor in the car with you at all times. The track at pitt has wide open spaces so if you loose control, you will end up in the grass with little chance of hitting the rail. The only dangerous spot is in the back straight region where I take it a little easy. BTW you are responsible for all damages to your car or the track. Thats how most HPDE events are, as far as I know.

The chances of going off track are very rare in HPDE 1 and 2
