In short, a vehicle is not really built from the factory SPECIFICALLY to deal with the stress on the car caused from drifting.

Will you hurt the car by doing a couple donuts or kicking the rear end out? Probably not. But at some point, something WILL end up breaking. It could be anything from the tie rod snapping to blowing the transmission or diff. Sometimes people just pull the short straw.

Only thing I would recommend is if you're going to do it, do it at a sanctioned event and make sure that you'll be able to live without the car for a while should something break. It probably won't happen, but there's always the chance.

It's like motorcycle riding. People say there are two types, those who have gone down and those who will. With drifting, there are those who have crashed/broken something and those who will.
