Personally, for $40k I would buy a 2010 S4, not a TTS. The S-Tronic (DSG) gearbox is not as fun as a traditional manual; that really kills it for me. The TT is a lot of fun though; I drove a 2012 2.0T and a 2007 3.2 6spd and they feel great to drive, except for that dual clutch auto. The chassis is mostly aluminum except for the rear trunk area which is steel to balance out the weight of the engine. It's just a little bit over 3,000lbs with AWD, which is impressive. It is a haldex-based AWD system, which isn't the ideal system.
