I'm married with one toddler. I have two Miatas. I'm currently driving the stripped-out track NA as my daily, since I only have extreme-performance summers for the NC, and the winter tires on the NA are helpful in the sleet we are still getting here in MD. The rest of the year, the NC is my DD. Either way, I drive the kid in the car. (The NC has an airbag-disabling switch, and the NA doesn't have airbags.) When the three of us have to go somewhere, we take my wife's Mazda3.
My plan in the event of a second child is to acquire an FR-S for kid-carrying duty. If needed, I'll pull the front passenger seat out to make it easier to get the second kid in the rear right seat, at least until he or she can get back there his- or herself. I hope to be able to keep both Miatas in that case.
My point is that, just because you have a child or two doesn't mean you have to give you Toyobaru. My personal opinion is that most people carry far more stuff with them than they need, even without kids. Once they have children, they tend to get even more unreasonable. The question is, how much hassel are you willig to put up with and how much are you willing to give up to have an interesting car?
