Probably did a quick compression test.. bent or damaged valve will also show low / no compression... I would bet on that over a hole in the piston.. Pre Ignition is what causes holes not detonation, detonation causes cracks and missing chunks. I have read though that DI is prone to carbon buildup which can lead to pre ignition if there is enough of it..
