The Mustang was introduced as a Pony Car, not a muscle car. You wanted a Ford muscle car from the early 60s, then you pretty much had to buy the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt.
The Pony Car class consisted of American sports-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks (sounds more or less like an FR-S).
