It's not cost as much as time, if you do it yourself. You can get a good piano black finish with decent spraypaint. It just takes a lot of coat and a ton of sanding of the color layer and a nice hard clear that you can also wetsand/polish.

I'd probably use an epoxy paint or other type that dries nice and hard. Easier to sand those. Some basic spray enamels are forever tacky.
