I'm not really a fan of AWD though, so v0v. I guess it depends on what kind of daily driving you do as well-- I'm sure the Audi would be a nicer place to sit if you haven't got any fun roads around.
Personally if I had that kind of money to spend I'd be really, really tempted to pick up a lowish mileage 135i. Replace the suspension, add a nice exhaust, possibly chip it and add bigger wheels + tires. They're monstrously quick cars when set up properly, a lot of fun to drive, and incredibly practical as a dd... and certainly a ton of car for the money.

This so much. If you're looking for a really fun car and practicality isn't high on your list, there are a bunch of better options in the 40k price range.
