I highly doubt we'll ever see a truly base model here in the US, but since their essentially the same car, this could be a good way for the companies to avoid overlapping sales too much. (Also, Scion wouldn't run the risk of having FR-S sales intrude on the sales of the less expensive tC and Subaru could offer a performance car for several thousand less than the base WRX).
I know this is all just the wishful thinking of one person, but something like this at least would make sense to me.

Its possible but even Subaru does not sell a car in the US that is as stripped at the sub base FT-86. But you never know they might.
