I grew up on basic cars that needed constant care and maintenance, too. Primitive fuel injected Camaros. An oil-drinking RX-7. A Carbureted 240Z. None of which averaged more than 15mpg. Fact of the matter is, apart from the way they drove when they were running right, I'm f#%king sick of cars that I spend equal parts wrenching and driving (or sometimes, more wrenching than driving).
This is 2013 and we have reliable, comfortable, quiet, efficient and technologically superior cars. The FR-S/BRZ happen to have all these in a lightweight sporty package like the ones I grew up with. I want one and I don't want to be messing around with it all the time. Otherwise I might as well save myself $28,000 and stick with my 80's cars.
