A larger bore x stroke ratio would help achieve this. There are only a handful of squared motors that run to 8K rpms. The piston speeds get too fast too quick.

In fact, the only 3 engines that I'm aware of that run to 8K with a bore x stroke that isn't over squared (over 1:1 ratio) are:
- B18C (Honda - GSR) 81mm bore - 87mm stroke
- K20 (Honda - RSX/Civic Si) 86mm bore - 86mm stroke
- 2ZZ-GE (Toyota - Celica GTS/Lotus Elise/Exige) 82mm bore - 85 mm stroke

They all have very sophisticated head work with special camshaft/valve lift designs.
