The problem with the stock Evo ECU is it cannot be secured in any way. Even if vendors "lock" the maps, it takes 30 seconds to unlock them with a free and widely available tool online.

Sounds weird to me i guess because i come from the honda community, where there arent exactly cookie-cutter maps being sold by vendors... vendors sell the tuning solution itself, then you download a widely available basemap that someone has posted that is somewhat close to your setup, then take it to a tuner and get it dyno tuned.
Ive always thought of basemaps as a starting point, ive never thought of them as something that somebody bottles and sells.
