Then again for those with heavily modified or boosted cars, this is no subsititute for a dyno tune. But at least another persons map could provide a starting point if they have a similar setup.

I say this because I come from the Evo community where 99% or more of tuning is done with EcuFlash. There is a very strict policy on EvoM of not posting vendor maps.
The problem with the stock Evo ECU is it cannot be secured in any way. Even if vendors "lock" the maps, it takes 30 seconds to unlock them with a free and widely available tool online.
