Hmmm, yes and no. The raw materials - plastic, copper, steel, etc might amount to the $2 your mentioning.

This is like saying "Hey, that car is only worth $300 in raw materials. Why are they charging 30K?"

This switch has a lot going on, like any other switch in an automobile.

I think you would be hard pressed to find any automotive switch, relay, harness, etc that would cost $2.

It's not just red. It's an entirely new switch that is plug and play with the existing harness.

When you are talking about something as important as ignition, I think it's worth the 200 bucks cost of entry. Hence, why I have the STi version on my car.
