I brought up the actual "tests" and should not have gone there. You are right sticky tires make a big difference. All I was getting at was there was a lot of room for improvement, in terms of performance and that its a car that falls mid pack with the hot hatch segment mostly in terms of "sports car" numbers.

That test for example shows probably its most direct competitor the Genesis being about 2 seconds quicker a lap, mostly because of the power advantage. And the Genesis in on nearly its 5th year of production.
Whether you love or hate the car, you get to pick your power level. 2.0T or 3.8 V6. And no matter if you choose the base model for 24k or top at 32k its faster around a track and on the street than the FR-S.

The MX5 is like 100 years old, but when the new model hits all rumors point to a sub 2400lbs car making 200HP.

So Toyota has some work to do to keep this car relevant in terms of performance. That's all I was saying, they have started behind the 8 ball in so many areas.
