That's odd, our catless only made a few hp more at the top end than the catted and the midrange difference was astonishing.
Quick update because we're pretty swamped: Initial driving impressions of this header and gigantic 3" full exhaust: Not a huge fan. If I was a track driver, I'd be all over this thing - it picks up at about 5k and feels like you got hit with a freight train. Unfortunately, it sounds like the freight train is at full throttle behind you also.
We need to play with it on the dyno, it's down there right now and they're going to fiddle with cam timing and such to see if the midrange drop is just based on the original tune we put together for the smaller primaries.
Not a big deal, we'll throw the 2.5" exhaust behind it and it may pick up massively. Lots of parts to swap in and out to see how the system behaves. Lots to iterate. I'm not looking forward to all the on and off the dyno to test all this stuff, but for now we're going to see what tuning can do with what is on the car.
The bottom line is this: The parts we have been selling for a long time now have proven themselves with a FEW different headers on the dyno and we're still extremely confident in them for our future header designs. The big 3" stuff seems a bit stretched and overkill to say the least, especially for people who aren't just using their 86 as a dedicated track car. And no worries, we can always throw a turbo on the front half of that header.

Yeah I said it.
I'll post more when I have more information, and we'll be back to the dyno to swap things on and off to test different combinations of options. Also probably going to put that big twin circuit exhaust on and see if that even can do the job of keeping the sound down with the big 3" overpipe downpipe, but I have a feeling that we'll be keeping that in reserve for a dedicated turbo kit solution.
