I don't know why the old USA distributor for the wheels (now gone) wrote about this, as complaints are mostly for the owners of the original ones sold in the 70's and 80's who are looking to restore the classics. Of course almost any wheel from that era will oxidize without care.

Anyway, these new ones STL as well as CR and ST in smaller sizes for the classic cars, are made now with newer materials, and techniques on modern CNC in Japan, and as such, should be more resistant to premature fading of the coatings and surfaces.
