I've seen many a civic apart at my buddies body shop. They're not anvils by any standard. No modern car is. The FRS IS about as well built as modern cars are coming. Get used to it.. or keep buying older cars.
They're all designed to be light and rigid but come apart and dissipate energy in a crash. That equates to being built out of pressed tin foil glued together at the edges. They're not built to last, they're built to be replaced like plastic cups.
But that's ok, stick with it if it does what you need it to do.
