Chase will probably chime in here, since he did the design on this one, but I know that he prototyped a kit that looked pretty much exactly like the SYMS kit. From what I recall, it didn't raise the hood as high and the strut ended up in your way if you were working on your car; those were two of our main design objectives. The geometry of the linkage is also different, which has a substantial affect on how the kit 'behaves', but I'll stop there and let Chase pick up the pieces before I misinform anybody.
