It's called GST here, goods and services tax and is collected by the Federal Government. 10% on top except for exemptions for essentials such as unprocessed food. We have killer stamp duty on homes. I bought a home for AU$700,000 in 2008 and paid $31,000 stamp duty to the state government.
That hurt when I wrote the cheque!!
