Yes, the US tax code is a cumbersome system. It begs to be simplified. We wouldn't need the IRS as it exists if it wasn't so complex.

Sorry for taking this off topic but I have to say that I totally agree, it needs to be simplified. Sales tax should be a one off, collected by the retailer from all sales of the items it applies to. If anyone's exempt then they claim it back from the IRS.
However, it shouldn't apply to overseas customers because we don't benefit from the infrastructure that tax supports!
