Subaru GT300 engine

This popped up on the Subaru Motorsports blog and I thought it is pretty relevent to the ft86. You might've seen the diagram posted before of the Legacy GT300 car.

This has mainly been brought up to show how the AWD is set up, and how that might be possible in the future on the ft86, but one thing I never considered is that the engine is also very low and mounted far back... like the ft86. So in theory an EJ20 swap could look very similar to this.

Quote:
The EJ20 type horizontally opposed engine - the only four-cylinder turbo engine in the 2011 SUPER GT, has been tuned for optimum performance on racing circuits by applying technologies continually developed for the WRC since the 1990s.

The engine block has the same shape as the road car version but doesn't have a sump to collect oil. A dry sump system, which has an external reservoir for oil, has been employed instead in order to lower vehicle height as much as possible. Oil is thus forcefully circulated by scavenge pumps mounted on the underside of the engine.

An induction box to conduct fresh air, a turbocharger to compress incoming air, and an intercooler, which cools down the compressed air, are all placed at the very front of the body. Both the length and layout of the exhaust pipe between the engine and turbo unit are designed for optimum shape for GT racing.

The most distinctive features of the 2011 power unit of the Legacy GT300 are the changed position and shape of the intercooler and added induction box, which leads fresh air directly from the grille to intake. In the 2010 model, air was fed in from behind the headlights.
