Speculating here but if you tap into the high beams, the DRL will drive them at the low setting and turning on your brights would bring about the brighter setting?
I thought I saw a little module in the wiring pics that I think is what would allow this to happen.
If you have LEDs in your high beams then that may be of some benefit but if you've disabled them then you might want to find a different power source and bypass the module. I believe the module uses the two different voltages that are present with a DRL setup.
