Personally, i wouldn't run rear speakers, when you go to a concert, you don't stand with your back to the gig? :p
But!
If you connect them in parallel you will get a 2 ohm load, which will probably be fine for the amp, you will get more power too, if you connect them in series you will get 8 ohm, which will give you less power. (and some amps don't like running it either)
If you do connect them, i would go parallel, but there will be problems, you wont be able to control the power going into them, or volume.
you will more than likely fry the rear speakers before the fronts, every time you turn up the volume you will clip the rear speakers while the fronts will be ok, soon enough you will let you the magical smoke and that stuff is almost impossible to get back in!
man, you guys are making me remember stuff i have long thought forgotten :p

Yeah , the volume and power. Now, i remember why i stopped looking into doing it.
May try it, for fun... Hopefully blow the speakers and not the amp. Excuse to buy new speakers. (cant afford it at the moment) My Amp can run 2ohms.
Yeah its sounds ok. ahh good enough. I never pump the system in traffic, only on freeways and constant speed, so it does the job.
The rears are pretty crap anyway.
My next job is to re-work the boot. Sub and amp wedged in the middle is annoying me... Loosing my license soon soon so will have some time to work on it.
Memory refresh. Glad to be of service to you.
