Even if the FR-S "R" version has the roll-cage (Which I highly doubt, but who knows), they will charge you more for the breaks, etc. than if you buy them (or even better parts) elsewhere and either DIY or go to a shop and get it done on your normal FR-S. Even if you don't want to go aftermarket and buy the official toyota parts, it will still be cheaper (and more fun) to do it that way.

And don't forget that the "race ready" version comes with the "race ready" insurance price... That kind of takes away the point of making it affordable. To each their own, but I will most likely be going with regular version and add things I want later.
This is a similar arguement that Honda people had between the GS-R and Type-R Integras. It really depends on what they do.

Of course the R version will cost more, but probably not more than you could build it for yourself. Also, if you are into stock class autocrossing, then you couldn't upgrade and stay in stock unless you bought all the R version parts from Scion and converted the car (impossible if it has a different subframe, etc welded to the body, well not impossible but way too expensive). And the R version won't be more than a couple grand more at this vehicle pricepoint, I'm not sure you've ever bought dealer parts but there is NO way you'd be able to buy all those parts for less than the upgraded model price difference...

My ITR costs me LESS in insurance than my GS-R. Insurance pricing depends on a lot of factors, which one is faster isn't really one of them nearly as much as theft, medical costs, repair costs, rate of loss, etc.

As for wanting the R version, I would. However, I have no idea when it'll come out. If it's 6 months later I'll wait. If it's 3 years later then I won't. I'll just waste money selling the original one and buying the R version then. Hopefully they'll give us some idea of when the R version will be released.
