I'm not willing to accept that speculation until they've dug their own grave.
Nissan has already said they're not intent on competing with the twins. That means:
*not $25k, OR
*not FR drivetrain, OR
*something more high-tech
If they do a cheap $19k rear-drive with the parts-bin 1.6T GDI, then cool. If they go more expensive than the twins, they'll have to spruce up that powertrain to rationalize the cost. If they go front-drive, then they'll be competing with the MINI Roadster and forthcoming BMW Z2, which are sport-ish, not true sports cars, IMO.
