The focus groups failed them.

This (and many others) is an example of what makes the Twins so great; they're a modern day throw-back, a "gift" from the automotive world to the enthusiast in a time, an era and a future of cars without soul, simplicity and fun. The future of cars, even sports cars, will be driver aids, electronics gizmos, excessive weight, touch screens and self parking back up cameras. The goal of the automotive designer, the automotive innovator is no longer about incorporating the driver but just the opposite; removing the need for the driver altogether.

Unless you're willing to drop $80K plus on a new car, the future of "fun" isn't getting much brighter, and even then...
