Altezza auto engine was basically tuned for lower-end torque/midrange power, probably to offset a) the torque converter's losses and b) people buying auto are less likely to be banging off redline shifts, and drive with the 'power under the curve. I just can't see it being too weak to handle 159 lb-ft.
Alternatively c) same problem as the rotary?
