I find it interesting the Evo is about the only magazine that doesn't like the GT86 as much as the others. Comparing the GT86 to a Type R is rather tough though, given the fact that the Type R was much more expensive at launch (I believe it was roughly $25k back in the 90s - which translates to over $33k today). The fact that it can hold a candle to the DC2 is very good and for less money brand new.

I always find it odd when people compare a new car to a used higher performance one. Price for the used will almost always blow it out unless you are talking a used exotic versus a new mid range car.

As for the performance, the GT86 did almost where I thought it would given the reviewer. Good to hear they think it's an awesome platform that needs more polishing but I think that's what aftermarket is for. Otherwise, they would have released this car for $32k and be that much better (better tires, better hp delivery, etc. etc.).

I am waiting to see what STi for the BRZ will do as well as TRD.
