The Parrot is pretty unimpressive. I did a bit of research into it and found out that it's under powered and not very easy to use in the car. On top of that, it's expensive.
The best "value" android HU is the ca-fi knockoff. It does everything the Adayo does, but better. And it's cheaper (400$ on ebay).
As far as iPhone 5 compatibility. AFAIK, the lightning connector isn't compatible with the older style of connector (which EVERYTHING uses). I think there is an adapter, but it doesn't allow video/audio out? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
You don't need a laptop in the car to put stuff on the head unit. I used a thumb drive formatted using FAT32 to transfer stuff between. And yes head unit stuff works fine. Bluetooth, music and radio all work fine. The Adayo won't let you listen to FM radio and do something else (like Nav) at the same time, though. It's a problem they know about.
