Well, no. You can go a half inch wider, you can go four inches wider. The whole and only mechanical reason to do a staggered setup is that:
1. You don't have enough rear traction to put down power.
2. The maximum wheel width you can fit all around in a square setup isn't sufficient to put down power.
and 3. You can fit wider wheels in the rear than will clear in the front.
If you aren't having traction issues directly related to having too much power for the rear tires to hold, then the amount by which you're going wider in the rear is completely arbitrary. Pick whatever looks good, but just know that the wider you go the more it will upset the handling.
