It was actually misfiring (losing charge through the failed seal under load, into the intake manifold...), but we caught it really early, so there was no permanent damage.
However, FHI wanted the engine for teardown, and replaced ours...
Only happens when the engine is FULLY heated up (not just the temp gauge in the "normal" spot), and only under 3500 RPM or so.
