Market share. If Pioneer, JVC, Alpine or one of the other major players differentiated themselves by offering a superior product at a similar pricepoint they'd easily be able to corner the market and significantly increase sales.
If you had the choice between a $900 Pioneer running the latest version of android with a capacitive touch screen and a $900 alpine running the same old stuff they've been putting out for years, where is your money going to go?
