My dealer didn't tell me shite. I drove the car right off the lot on a Saturday, picked up my daughter (220 KM drive), went to a wet parking lot and proceeded to do donuts and drifts.
Will the car explode on me? No. I probably wouldnt have done that if the dealer had informed me first but no biggie. I believe break in procedure is partially designed to prevent any defect issue from being amplified due to the engine running faster. In other words, to minimize damage caused from the percentage of expected component failures on a new vehicle. It is just statistics.
Also, refraining from really heating up the engine when new might prevent that burning smell that is so common when coatings, oils, waxes in the engine bay from the manufacturing are exposed to heat and burn off quicker than intended.
