A small rwd mid-engined VW car built on a modified porsche boxster/cayman platform would be closer to the $35-45k USD range. You could almost buy 2 FT-86s for that price if the rumors of a $22k stripper track model are true. Not really what I would consider a FT-86 competitor.

Plus IIRC all of those VW concepts were convertibles right? I thought the plan was to build a "smaller cheaper entry level" boxster and VW would also get a version of that car out of the deal. There is no way that car is going to be anywhere close to $20k.
