Though, now that I think of it, I wouldn't pit it past them to try to save some money by reusing a spindle this way. It doesn't make much sense that they would, however. I recently had to replace the driver's side front wheel hub on my mountaineer, and even though mine is RWD the spindle and hub are identical to the 4WD version. The only thing that was missing was an axle.
Does this mean that Toyota/Subaru will do that? No. But, they could.
