Hon, he lives in Texas. The only thing he needs a permit for is concealed carry.
If you're interested at all in owning a firearm, a safety class is a good place to start. Firearm safety can't be stressed enough.

It's interesting seeing some of the international views on firearms. In the US there is a great deal of controversy over it with many different views on regulations and which ones should be banned but one thing is for sure, the government is not allowed to take all firearms away from private citizens since it's in our constitution.
It's also funny seeing ignorant statements like "guns kill people." You have no idea how a gun works if you say that.

I'm sorry to be so blunt about it but I've grown up with them. They are not point and shoot like cheap cameras.
