After paying more attention into this issue, first gear for 5-10 is necessary. Only about 2-2.2k rpm at 10 mph. 2nd gear is kind of sluggish but doable. Consider it situational. At that speed you're almost to a stop. It certainly won't hurt the car, but you can use your judgement and feel when it's bogged versus when it's normal.
This is the whole reason why I love my manuals in sports cars. Full control over the car.
