okay. we're both trained drivers. dont try this at home:
we drive 92 miles each from phx in sixth gear at 4500+/- 1000 rpms, often climbing the hill in fifth in the upper 6000'rpms. much 4rth gear redlining happens when passing trucks up hills. speed limit here is 75, traffic moves 90. I move faster yet at times. this happens in 115F heat. hence my thermal scrutiny.
I drive generally well into triple digits. much of this driving is at 4am ,roads are deserted
our travel time is 1:10 door to door.
very little passing occurs at 3500 rpms..
my cars all spend their lives seeing very high rpm use, even the ones with v8s
my wife is a MD and responds to call at 2am, also drives same cars, same triple digits for an hour at a time, much redlining goes on where I live
my elevation 1.5 hrs south is 1000 feet
my elevation 3.5 hrs north is 8000 feet
this in a span of a few hundred miles
we put 36,000 miles on her porsche last year alone
I dunno what youre talking about. high compression motors are designed for high rpm use...I didnt buy a sports car to baby it and rev it low. thats what big v8s are for.
LA is 7 hrs according to google maps. we do it in a whole hour less. interstate 40 is a deserted highway, with canyon curves and miles of smiles. this is high rpm country. look at a map between flagstaff and vegas...
