I've seen a couple of the guys in the states have done it... but we get a different head unit to the FR-S.
And dont just say replace the head unit, i'd prefer to keep it simple and stock looking just with some extra kick in the back.

kept my stock sat nav from the GTS.
4x100rms - 2 powering the stock front speakers.
2 powering the 12in sub ( standard non ported box ) Box re-sealed again and glued in some house roof insulation.
Pulled out the full size spare and all the foam, sub box just sitting in the middle down low, facing rear. Puncture repair kit in the boot and a foam in a can. Got roadside assistance too. When travelling up the coast, pull out the sub and put the spare in.
Amp and sub are about 7 years old. Still going strong.
So just spent money on plugs, speaker cable, power cable and fuse.
Amp has high input connectors, (so no need for RCA's and converter) ran all the speaker wire to the boot down the centre console. 1 side speaker cable, other side power cable, gets a bit tricky once you get to the back seat. Power cable straight down the middle, all other cabling in a hardened under the rear seat along the curves of the seat.
Bought 2 separate opposite M/F OEM connectors - repco, other off ebay. Basically ran all my cabling without even having to cut into the oem harness. Can easily pull out the headunit and connect back to stock set up. A bit of a fuss to do, but I guess I like clip plugs and soldering, wires.
Amp and sub just sitting in the boot. Still deciding where to mount the amp. It is quite big and I may just get a 5 channel smaller one in the future.
Took the back seat off and I was not really happy to cut into the back seat if I change it later on. May mount the sub in the spare tyre space and custom build a thin boot liner and have clips attaching the sub box to it in the middle. I want to be able to unclip the sub at anytime i need.
All speaker wire ran to the sub, 4 wires for front to amp to control front speakers then those wires go back to the headunit into the plug for the stock speakers. 4 wires for the rear speakers used for the sub. So that means i have bass control via the headunit. E.g Fade Front/Rear
Rear speakers not connected. May replace them with same size speaker and amp them once i get a 5 channel amp.
Cost me about $200
$140 ? for Kicker 4g kit.
$20 extra speaker wire.
$20-35 Oem plugs
Looking at sound deadening. Not really fussed at the moment.
2 days work - Soldering the extra harness's i bought took up a bit of time. Also pulling off all the panels in the car. (you may break clips) take your time.
Need to dig out all the pics.
Quoted around $1000 for the same thing with door deadening. Also they would not have done the OEM hot plugs like i did but rather cut into the factory harness. Once I saw the quote i took it as a challenge/project.
If anyone is feeling over whelmed with doing it yourself.

The guy there (Marty) was great to talk to. He know's his sh*t, and is a straight shooter. His passion for it, pretty much inspired me to get off my a$$ and do it myself like I wanted to but was putting it off. @
fuddbutter can vouch for this guy. I would def recommend people go there.
In the end, presently surprised by the sound of the stock speakers when amped. Sub sounds awesome to the point, I turned it down a bit.
Dammm, rear view mirror vibration. 1st thing i need to work on. !!!!! Been ignoring it for weeks
Had to bend out my rear number plate a bit due to the vibration.
