I've driven my '99 MX5 (no DSC, TCS, or even ABS) through the last couple winters in hilly western MA no problem.

Get snow tires.

Just like you should do with any vehicle during inclement weather, increase your following distance and drive conservatively (especially on curves and downhill).

The difference with a lightweight RWD car is that getting started on an icy uphill and going through deep unplowed heavy snow can be challenging. I keep a small shovel and small bucket of kitty litter in the trunk, just in case (but I've not needed the litter and only used the shovel once when I got plowed in after work).
