I had a long reply and realized I was getting too wordy. To put it simply:
This car is not holy or sacred, neither is the tire choice. The stock tires are perfect for what the car was sold as, but inappropriate for any sort of performance driving. Tires, in general, are the easiest and most important way to tune your car; even the most un-handy owner can swap on a set of track tires. So saying a car will do better with better tires in a performance environment is perfectly appropriate. It's not fanboy-ism, it's step #1.
