Cars break, you weren't at fault - sounds like an odd one though - very freaky.
I remember on the orignal Subie immobilisers if you were silly enough to undo your belt then put it back on without disarming the immobiliser you could end up doing 100KM/H then the engine would just shut off which was unnerving.

Oh it was freaky seeing the tree coming up and bouncing the curb knowing I could just brake not steer.
